Why Use Granite?

As old as the earth, granite is an igneous rock formed from molten rock at the earth’s core.  Cooled slowly over time under great pressure, granite becomes extremely hard and dense.  The minerals comprising granite differ in color, texture and crystalline structure to give each granite unique movement and richness.  The natural flow and blending of colors into veins is part of the appeal of granite.

In addition to its gorgeous appearance, granite countertops are very heat resistant, difficult to chip or scratch, and are stain resistant when properly sealed.

Granite, quarried from the mountains of Brazil, Italy, the U.S., India, and dozens of other countries around the world, is one of the most popular natural stones on the market.

Available in a striking array of colors, granite's durability and longevity make it ideal for kitchen countertops and other heavily used surfaces, including table tops and floors.

Selecting your Granite

Granite is from the earth and therefore will contain natural concentrations of crystals, pits, and veins that are likely to be present in sections of the slab or slabs that make up your countertop. Because of these variations, no two "slabs" of granite are exactly alike.

The samples contained in our Sample Gallery are representative of colors typically stocked by Empire.
